This virtual workshop was originally presented and recorded in January 2022. Presenter Lori Nichols provides an overview of the three most common classes of psychotropic medications that are used with children and youth: Antidepressants, Antipsychotics, and Stimulants.
Topics covered included:
- How the medications can change thinking, behaviour, and emotions
- How to recognize and communicate concerning patterns of thinking, emotions, and behaviour
- What changes to track and report when someone starts a medication
- Other things that can help when someone is taking medication
Lori Nichols, RN, MS , has over 30 years experience as a mental health nurse working with children and families in child welfare, health care settings, and school systems. Her philosophy of care is grounded in resilience, trauma-informed care, and neurobiological knowledge.
